Special Needs Dogs
Special Needs...Special Hearts
Adopting a special needs dog may be something you've never considered because you may have some misconceptions about just what "special needs" is about.
All pets deserve special care and love...some just need a little bit extra. This doesn't mean a special needs pet requires a huge investment of time or that they come with constant problems or insurmountable obstacles.
Caring for pets with special needs does not have to be a burden. In fact, it can be a richly rewarding experience.
In some cases, special needs simply mean a certain type of diet. Some dogs may have emotional needs that require extra attention. Occasionally, we have elderly pets that have lost their family and now they just need a quiet, loving place to spend their remaining years. A few are simply recovering from an illness or injury, which means their extra requirements, will eventually end.
Information about the particular special needs of each individual dog is included in their listing.
In each case, we've found that these dogs seem to somehow understand that you're going the extra mile for them and the love they offer in return is just a bit more memorable.
We continue to support our adoptive families—special needs or not—if they need advice or supportive information post-adoption. Our dedicated volunteers are always willing to answer questions and do research to find solutions to problems. We also have many helpful links in the educational area of our website.
