On November 12, 2011, we drove from Raleigh to Charlotte, North Carolina, to meet Cosmo. It was mutual love at first sight!  We drove home with him  that night and he immediately became a member of our family. This little fella stole our hearts and changed our lives forever. Two years later, we adopted Tiki, also through HRI, and our family was complete.

Last October, we found out that our Cosmo had an inoperable tumor on his heart. We didn't know how much time we had left with him so we spent the last couple of months loving, playing, and spoiling him and making the best memories with our boy.

We said goodbye to Cosmo on November 27, 2019 and are grieving the loss of the best friend and companion that anyone could ever have.
We are grateful for the eight years that we had we him and are comforted knowing that he is no longer in pain.

Thank you, HRI family for entrusting Cosmo and Tiki to our care and for allowing us to give them a home filled with love, care, toys, and infinite belly rubs.

Maria, Tony, and Tiki Fister

Cosmo in NC2 - CopyCosmo is a sweet, energetic 2 1/2 yr old who wants nothing more than to be next to you. Playing with a ball outside or playing fetch inside are his favorite things and if there is a treat involved, well then, even better! He makes his foster family laugh when he is shown a treat and they say "sit",  he slides all 4 legs down with a whoosh and waits eagerly on his belly with his legs splayed out! Nobody can resist that move or the look in his beautiful eyes!

Cosmo is a sturdy 17 lbs, and incredibly affectionate. That saying "he never met a stranger" could have originated with this guy. Cosmo goes up to everyone to kiss them and holds up his legs to be held.

Cosmo loves walking and does very well on a leash. He does well in car rides. He came to his foster home aCosmo in NC bit anxious, but that is improving every day. He is housebroken and knows many basic commands. He even comes when you call him! Though he will sleep in a crate (and did prior to coming to HRI care) he really is happier sleeping on the floor right next to his foster parents' bed at night.

Cosmo had fleas prior to coming to HRI and is very allergic to flea dirt.  He developed some terrible hot spots from that but they are healing. He is very healthy with good knees, good teeth and no health issues.

Cosmo would do well in a home with another dog or a home with no other dog. This guy is a little athlete and would be great taking on something like agility training. Cosmo is a special guy that needs to have someone around most of the day so that he doesn't have to be crated for long periods.

Cosmo in NC2Cosmo is being fostered in NC.

A donation will be requested to adopt this dog. The recommended donation amount will be based on the dog's age, and medical and behavioral issues, if any.  A completed application is required if you are interested in adoption. Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
