Muriel is good with the other dogs and not interested in the cat. The two younger foster sisters (6 months and 1 1/2 years old) are sometimes a bit much for her and she just gets away from them but she's great with her 4 year old foster sister who is just a little calmer. She is not bothered by her foster mom's 5 year old human grandson, but then again she's not really engaged by him either. Her new love is her foster dad who she attached herself to on day one and has not left his side since!
When surrendered it was stated that Muriel had a "house training issue" but her foster mom says that Muriel is using the outside right along with the other dogs in the house (3 foster sisters). Muriel has not had one accident in the house since she arrived.
Muriel might have lost some hearing over the years, and when it seems like she's not listening, it's just that she's not hearing. As soon as you get her attention and she's looking at you she's, very responsive. It's not a total loss of hearing because she can certainly hear the kitchen noises when it's feeding time ... she'll leave her foster dad's side for that. She eats well and drinks plenty of water and enjoys a healthy treat now and then.
Muriel is a very pretty girl and has soft wavy hair. She likes to be brushed and doesn't mind a bath. It's obvious that she was loved and well groomed through the years. She doesn't show fear or separation issues at all. All and all, Muriel will make a wonderful companion for the person that is looking for an older dog that's past the "crazy" puppy stuff. She will enjoy sitting beside you on the couch as you watch TV or walk with you slowly and for short durations on a leash with the manners befitting a lady of her age. She doesn't pull or tug the leash at all.
Muriel rides very well in a crate in the car (she just falls asleep) and she could be picked up by her new family and easily travel up to 4 hours in any direction of CT. Muriel's perfect family will be older without children so as to not get run over by excited little feet. Or, perhaps, gardeners as she loves to lay in the sun in the back yard. She enjoys calm, but needs some stimulation as well to help keep that spunk she still has. Perhaps people that enjoy an evening stroll would be lovely. But whoever chooses to become her new family can be sure that they will receive so much more love in return than they ever thought possible.
