  • About Havanese

From the list below choose one of our FAQs topics, then select an FAQ to read. If you have a question which is not in this section, please contact us.

HRI is here for the dogs that don't have anyone else to be there for them. A dog from (or with) a breeder has them as their back up.

When HRI is informed about a dog in need of rescue, we contact breeders if we're able to determine who they are. A responsible breeder is interested in their Havanese and frequently wants their dog back. Other times they work with HRI to support the dog until HRI finds a home that is able to care for them.

These questions come up often. This is what you should do:

  • If you hear from an individual that has a dog they want to surrender, it’s best to send them to our WEBSITE – www.havaneserescue.com

  • At the top of the home page in the header, mouse over the box with the dog in a parachute. Click on the assistance form and submit the requested information.
  • If you have first hand information about a dog needing rescue you can use the same procedure.
  • Please include any contact information and links if possible.
  • An Intake volunteer will get more information from the individual or organization that has the Havanese and will take care of contacting the state contact as well.

Thank you for keeping an eye open for Havanese in need of rescue’s assistance.

Someone is always monitoring these submission and will follow up on the information. Be sure to provide contact information.

Our dogs come from a variety of sources. Most dogs come to us directly as owner surrenders, some come from shelters or animal control as strays, while others are left there by owners. Other times dogs come from a puppy mill that has closed or is no longer interested in the breed or the dog in question.

Changing lives ... one Havanese at a time.
