Keebler headshotCurrently fostered in south central Pennsylvania just a few miles from the Hershey Kiss factory, Keebler is appropriately the sweetest chocolate Havanese boy one could imagine. Weighing in at 15 pounds, this 14-month-old has adapted well to his new digs and the three resident Havs. He is a good eater, loves to go on walks, to play in the snow, and to chew on a moose antler or two.

Keebler

We are working on house training, but Keebler has never had an accident in the house and reliably uses pee pee pads when he gets distracted and "forgets" to do all of his business outdoors. Since his foster home is non-fenced he is taken outside on a lead, but he loves to run and used a doggie door to access the fenced backyard in his former home. He was also used to sleeping in a crate but now loves to join the other dogs in bed every night. His foster mom often forgets he is still a puppy, as he seems so mature and serious about the tasks that are asked of him.Ê

Keebler is a shy guy and will need a special home with kind-hearted and patient owners. He is doing a great job, after just two weeks, of coming out of his shell and is gradually warming to the teen in the house, but he bonded to his foster mom in less than a week, and is seldom out of her sight. After fostering another shy dog several years ago, his foster mom is very encouraged at his rapid progress. He is still often tentative but they are working on introducing him to new situations to boost his confidence and adaptability. He even met two cats last weekend when he travelled to a relative's home for a visit. Keebler will bond, but it will have to be according to his timetable. With patience on the part of his new owners, will come trust and acceptance and more love than you could ever imagine. He so wants to please.

As is the case with many Havanese, Keebler loves to sit on his foster mom's lap and would do so all day and night if possible. He is very sensitive, and also very smart. Obedience training would be very helpful for Keebler to increase his self-confidence and to widen his horizons.
